This past June, we set off on a road trip through Northern Italy, a region packed with beauty, history, and more pasta than we could eat (almost).

In this post, we’ll give you an overview of our route, share some first impressions, and tell you what stood out the most — before diving into more detailed posts about each destination. If you’re planning something similar, this is your starting point.
🟩 Where We Went:
- Bergamo – The surprise gem of the trip. Historic, scenic, and a perfect place to begin.
- Verona – Romantic and lively, with way more to offer than Juliet’s balcony.
- Venice – We arrived with mixed expectations… and left completely enchanted.
- Lake Garda – Picture-perfect villages and crystal-clear waters.
- Lake Como – Classy, calm, and straight out of a movie scene.
- Milan – Our final stop — modern, artistic, and stylish.
🟨 What Stood Out Most
Each destination had its own pace and character. What made this itinerary so special was its variety — we went from lakeside villages to medieval cities, winding canals to grand boulevards — all within one trip.
If you love a blend of culture, landscapes, and incredible food, this part of Italy delivers.
🟩 Getting Around
This time we travelled independently as a couple, traveling with a rental car for the lakes and countryside.
That gave us the flexibility to explore smaller towns at our own rhythm — especially around Garda and Como.
In upcoming posts, we’ll share:
- Tips on renting and parking in Venice or Como
- How we moved between cities
- Hotels that really worked for us (and one that didn’t)
