Privacy Policy

Last updated: 27 October 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what personal data is collected when you visit farandroaming.com (“Far & Roaming”, “we”, “us”), why, and what your rights are under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Portuguese law.

1. Who is responsible for your data

The data controller is Pacheco Negrinho Lda, a company registered in Portugal, tax number (NIF) 510530150. Contact for any privacy question or request: pacheconegrinho@gmail.com.

2. What we collect and why

Visiting the site (statistics)

We use Jetpack Stats (by Automattic, which also hosts this site on WordPress.com) and Google Analytics 4 (via Google Site Kit) to understand which posts are read and how visitors find us. These tools can process your IP address, device and browser information, pages viewed, referring site and approximate location. Google Analytics uses cookies and only runs after you consent through our cookie banner. Legal basis: your consent (Google Analytics) and our legitimate interest in running and improving the site (essential, aggregated statistics).

Comments

If you leave a comment, we store the name, email address and website you provide, the comment itself, your IP address and browser user-agent. Comments are checked for spam by Akismet (Automattic). An anonymised string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to Gravatar (Automattic) to show your profile picture if you have one. Legal basis: legitimate interest in managing comments and preventing spam. Your name and comment are public; your email is not.

Newsletter

If you subscribe, your email address is stored by Jetpack / WordPress.com (Automattic) so we can email you new posts. You can unsubscribe at any time with the link in every email. Legal basis: your consent.

Emailing us

If you email us, we use your address and message only to reply and keep a record of the conversation. Legal basis: legitimate interest in answering you.

Affiliate links

Some links are affiliate links (see our Affiliate Disclosure). We currently work with Klook (through the Travelpayouts network) and Stay22 (accommodation partners such as Booking.com, Expedia, Hotels.com and Vrbo). Our pages load small scripts from Travelpayouts and from Stay22 (“Let Me Allez”, lma.stay22.com) that can turn ordinary hotel and travel links into affiliate links and count clicks on them. When you click such a link, the partner may set cookies or add tracking parameters on its own site to record that you came from us, so we can be credited for a booking. We do not receive your name, payment details or booking details — only aggregated reports of clicks and commissions. Each partner’s own privacy policy applies once you are on its site.

Advertising

This site does not currently show display advertising. If we enable advertising in the future (for example Google AdSense or WordAds by Automattic), the ad providers may use cookies to show and measure ads, and personalised ads would only be shown with your consent. We will update this policy before that happens.

Embedded content

Posts may include embedded content (for example videos or maps). Embedded content behaves as if you visited the other website, which may collect data about you under its own policy.

3. Cookies

We use a cookie banner (WPConsent) to ask for your consent before non-essential cookies are set. You can change your choice at any time through the banner or by clearing cookies in your browser.

  • Strictly necessary — remember your cookie choice, keep the site secure, and remember comment details if you ask us to. No consent needed.
  • Statistics — Google Analytics (cookies such as _ga). Only with your consent.
  • Marketing / affiliate — affiliate scripts from Travelpayouts and Stay22 on our pages, and cookies set by affiliate partners on their own websites after you click a link; and, if advertising is enabled in future, by ad providers. Only with your consent where required.

4. Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal data. We use these service providers (processors), who process data on our behalf: Automattic Inc. (WordPress.com hosting, Jetpack, Akismet, Gravatar, newsletter) Google (Google Analytics / Site Kit), and our affiliate networks Travelpayouts and Stay22 (click and commission tracking). Some of these providers are based in the United States; transfers are covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and/or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

5. How long we keep data

  • Comments: for as long as the comment is published.
  • Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
  • Emails: up to 2 years after the last message, unless needed longer for a legal reason.
  • Google Analytics data: 14 months.
  • Server and security logs: according to our hosting provider’s retention, usually a few weeks.

6. Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time (without affecting processing done before). To exercise any of these rights, email pacheconegrinho@gmail.com. We will reply within one month.

You also have the right to complain to the Portuguese data protection authority, the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (CNPD) — www.cnpd.pt.

7. Children

This site is aimed at adults planning trips. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16.

8. Changes

We may update this policy when we add or remove tools. The date at the top shows the latest version.

About us

We’re the family behind Far & Roaming — two parents, two kids, and a whole lot of passport stamps. Based in beautiful Portugal, we’ve been traveling the world together, one country (and one gelato stop) at a time.

Over the years, we’ve explored more than 30 countries as a family — from hidden islands in Asia to cobbled European streets — and we created this blog to share the very best of what we’ve found:
places worth staying, meals worth eating, and moments worth remembering.
